What you need to buy to Ride Your Horse

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

There are several available types of riding equipment you can purchase.

However, before you visit your local shop to get gear for your horse, you should look at what the essentials are and what they will do for your horse.

Having the right equipment right from the start will make your riding experience easier, especially if you are only beginning.

The first thought is not necessarily just what your horse will need, but also what you will need as well.

If you aren’t wearing the right clothes, you can easily get burned on your legs from the friction of riding. Because of this, it is important to wear pants that are fairly thick.

If you are planning on riding a lot, you may want to purchase a pair of chaps or breeches to protect your legs as they can easily become tender.

You may also want to consider getting gloves to help protect your hands from the reins; your fingers can become very sore when holding the reins of a horse.

Your shoes should also be closed and incorporate a heel.  Novice horse riders should also consider buying a good quality helmet, just in case the horse begins to act up.  All of these pieces of clothing will make easier and safer riding.

Now you can think about more equipment for your horse.  Saddle blankets are the first piece of gear to put on your horse when saddling them up.

This protects them from the saddle.  Saddle blankets are used to prevent sweat from getting on the saddle and the horse.  Some people like to ride with just the blanket in place; however, this is not a good idea for novice riders.

You will need to think carefully about the saddle you will use on your horse. You can choose between varieties of different saddles which vary in the shape

The two most popular types of saddles are English and Western styles.  There are also newer types of saddles that help reduce heat on the horse as well as provide more comfort while you are riding.

These are known as synergist and endurance saddles.  Before investing in a saddle, you should look at the varieties that are available to help with the best ride.

The last piece of equipment needed for riding your horse is the reins.  These will be attached to a piece of equipment called a bit which goes in the horses’ mouth.

The rein will then be tied to go back for you to hold onto.  Having the reins will allow you to steer the horse in different ways, as well as allow you to control the speed of the horse.

Other gear also available for horseback riding that ensures your riding experience is more comfortable is saddle bags.  These are convenient for carrying any other equipment and leave your hands free.

The above are the essential pieces of equipment you will need for both you and your horses comfort and safety.  Knowing what types of equipment you will need means you can then invest in the right equipment for easier and more comfortable riding.
