Usually, when a horse acts up, it means they are trying to communicate something is wrong to you. By understanding your horse has a problem; you will be able to be more effective in your training.
One of the first steps to training your horse is teaching them how to come to you to be groomed, taken care of or ridden. You may find your horse doesn’t want to come, and will stay with the other horses instead or run away from you when you try to catch it.
If the horse is not comfortable with having to work because he wants to play or stay with his friends or has a wound and knows by meeting you it will cause pain, then you will need to discover a way to make him want to come, such as giving him a treat. Keeping him healthy will also help to keep him calmer whilst in his field.
Another problem you may run into when you are riding your horse is the possibility of him bucking. Horses sometimes buck when you are riding them though there is usually a good reason behind it.
If the saddle is too tight, it will cause discomfort to your horse when you are riding. This is usually a problem if you haven’t placed your saddle in the center of the horse’s back. Also ensure you are continuously practicing the same motions and giving your horse the same cues to ensure he follows your commands when you are riding.
Horses are sensitive to body movement as well as your mood. This is important to keep in mind before you start to train your horse because if your horse senses you are not in an appropriate frame of mind for training he will probably play you up.
Horses will also react to a health problem bothering them, such as a wound when they are working. Therefore when you are training your horse, you should observe how they react to their training and whether they are showing any signs of distress.
Knowing how to train your horse helps the partnership between both of you to flower and prosper.
