Horse whisperers were first brought to the public’s attention by the movie “The Horse Whisperer”.

Horse whispering is a particularly interesting profession which sees the whisperer interacting with horses successfully to a large degree and modifying what is sometimes thought to be uncontrollable behaviour in the horse.

Many people think of horse whispering as a phenomenon which includes the whisperer having a spiritual relationship with horses.

Any horse owner who watches a horse whisperer at work and who can appreciate what he does should be able to pick up lots of hints and clues to improve his relationship with his own horse just by watching the horse whisperer at work.

Some horse whisperers are able to approach a horse that is excitable and uncontrollable and calm them instantly. It is this ability which convinces many people that there is something magical in what they do and how they interact with the horse.

Many horses who were considered a burden or untrainable have been saved from the knackers yard thanks to the skill of a horse whisperer.

It is thought that the whisperer understands how to speak to the horse and is able to communicate with them to a high degree in some way.

Having this understanding goes a long way to helping the horse who has behaviour problems improve his behaviour and temperament.

Horse whisperers are a part of history going back over probably thousands of years. There are many stories part of Native American myth about the shamans who could calm and help horses. There are also stories told through other cultures of men who had mystical powers over horses and could speak the language of the horse.

There are also legendary horse whisperers who worked continuously in the early Americas to make wild horses tame.

However it is thought nowadays any one training or owning a horse can learn how to connect to him on a deeper level using the same principles a horse whisperer uses.

Connecting with the horse on a spiritual level allows the horse to react in a positive way and gives him a chance to modify any bad behaviour.

One of the ways a horse whisperer uses to control a horse is his actual move towards the horse. The whisperer knows how to approach the horse by gaining the horse’s trust; he instinctively seems to grasp what the horse’s problem is and usually has a high rate of success in dealing with problem horses.

One of the approaches a horse whisperer will use is in the way he approaches the animal.

Horses have several instincts and a natural reaction to circumstances they may feel are dangerous.

When the horse whisperer reacts to a horse’s natural instincts, he allows the horse to respond to him. Basically what the horse whisperer is doing is reacting to the psychology of the horse in order to help tame him. 

Anyone who feels an empathy with horses and feel they can deal with them on a deeper level may well make an excellent horse whisperer.
